Hyderabad: Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has decided to provide education to all its workers, their family members and residents of surrounding villages and make all of them graduates.

In this regard, a comprehensive plan is being prepared by the company management in association with Ambedkar Open University.

As part of it, Chairman & Managing Director of SCCL, N Balram and Ambedkar Open University Vice-Chancellor Prof Ganta Chakrapani held a meeting in Singareni Bhavan here on Friday and discussed various options to provide higher education to workers and their family members.

Both SCCL and Ambedkar University are going to enter a memorandum of understanding (MoU) soon after finalizing a comprehensive plan.

Speaking on the occasion, Chakrapani said that Singareni gained accolades by implementing workers welfare programmes. It is going to be a big benefit than others if the workers and residents of surrounding villages were provided higher education.

University was ready to establish its study centers across the Singareni if building having teaching facilities were allocated, he assured and added to go ahead with an aim to provide higher education to workers.

To provide graduation and post-graduation education to project affected and displaced, philanthropists could provide financial assistance as a social responsibility, he said.

Balram said that though few of the Singareni workers have higher education qualification, many stopped studies with high school and intermediate. Though they have interest in pursuing higher studies, they were unable to do it due to lack of opportunity.

So, SCCL has decided to provide an opportunity to such workers by establishing Ambedkar University study centers across the Singareni. Many officers working in different cadres of SCCL got degree certificates from open university, C&MD informed.
