Hyderabad: Tension gripped Bodhan town in Nizamabad district following clashes between two groups over installing the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

The police officials brought the situation under control by resorting to lathi-charge. However, they imposed Section 144 CrPc prohibiting assembly of four or more persons in the area. Special police pickets were also posted to prevent any untoward incidents in Bodhan.

The works pertaining to installation of statue were taken up after a resolution in the local municipality. However, one group affiliated to a political party from Hyderabad objected to installing the statue triggering tension in the area.

Anticipating that the situation might go out of control, the police swung into action and dispersed the two warring groups and imposed Section 144 CrPc. Senior police officials said the situation was now under control.

Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali on Sunday enquired about the clashes that took place in Bodhan in Nizamabad district during installation of the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the morning. He spoke to senior officials and collected details about the incident.
