Telangana set standard for Panchayat Raj: Errabelli

Hyderabad: Panchayat Raj Minister E Dayakar Rao said the initiatives and reforms introduced by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao in Panchayat Raj and village development have set new benchmarks for other States in the country.
Extending his wishes on the State Formation Day, the Panchayat Raj Minister in a statement issued on Tuesday, said the development witnessed in panchayats and rural areas during the last seven years was phenomenal.
Right from provision of safe drinking water to each household to effective implementation of the Telangana Panchayat Raj Act 2018, several initiatives and reforms have been introduced and this has helped in more accountability and transparency government entities.
According top priority to village development, the Telangana Government launched Palle Pragathi programme and three editions have been successfully completed. Under the programme, every month Rs. 308 crore are being sanctioned to local bodies. Till date, Rs.5,993 crore have released to local bodies as grants.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao always stresses on rural development paves way for national development. Accordingly, the Telangana Government is now focusing on sanitation, waste management and segregation, water supply, plantation of saplings under Haritha Haram and other works, the Minister said.
Prior to State’s formation, only 84 Gram Panchayats were equipped with tractors. Now, nearly 12,669 Gram Panchayats have tractors equipped with trolleys. Similarly as a means to bid farewell to the departed souls in a good way, the State Government sanctioned construction of 12,751 Vaikuntadhamams with a cost of Rs.1,554 crore. Of this, 11,515 are already operational and the rest are in different stages of execution.
One remarkable achievement by the Telangana Government during the last few years, is ensuring safe drinking water to each and every household, the Minister said.
Before Telangana formation, only 5,672 habitations had partial drinking water supply facility. Under Mission Bhagiratha, 24,543 habitations now have drinking water supply facilities.
“Between 2004 and 2014, Rs. 4,198 crore was spent towards drinking water supply. A whopping Rs.32,500 crore was spent during the last five years to ensure permanent solutions for drinking water issues,” said Dayakar Rao.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is a pro-farmer Chief Minister. As a means to help the farmers, the State Government has approved construction of 2601 Rythu Vedikas with a cost of Rs.463 crore. Of these, 2595 are completed. Similarly, 93328 drying platforms were sanctioned with a cost of Rs.743 crore. Among these, 91136 have been constructed and inaugurated, he said.
To ensure more greenery in rural areas, Palle Prakruthi vanams have been developed with a cost of Rs.115 crore. Over 13.87 lakh saplings have been planted in these vanams.
Another significant achievement is Telangana is leading in the country in terms of mandays. Last financial year, 15.05 crore mandays were recorded and this year 13 crore mandays target has been set. Already, 9.90 crore mandays have been recorded, he said.
The State Government through SERP has offered Rs.10441 crore to 272500 women SHGs and Rs.2380 crore loans to 158679 SHGs under Sthrinidhi scheme, the Minister said.
