Hyderabad: Without much pomp and grandeur, people from the city are gearing up to celebrate the Christmas festival just with close friends and family, traditional home-cooked food, decorations, and fancy new clothes. While some people are taking part in charity drives in their neighbourhood, some others are keeping the Xmas spirit alive by participating in events like Secret Santa and potlucks at their workplaces.

For Kunal Raj Leo, a senior graphic designer at PAD Integrated Communications in Jubilee Hills, Christmas is all about spending time with loved ones. “We’ve put up a beautiful Christmas tree and star at home. We’ve also prepared a crib near the altar representing the birth of Jesus. On Christmas Day, my mother is planning on making traditional rose cookies, plum cake and we’ll be ordering some wine. The exciting part this year was that our office welcomed back Christmas activities like Secret Santa and all of us have been having a good time keeping in mind Covid protocols. Our office has been decorated amazingly for the festival,” shared Kunal.

Anisha David has been going carol singing every evening since December 1 and has been shopping locally this Christmas. From shopping fancy clothes from brands like H&M and Zara to getting some outfits personally designed, Anisha went all out this season.

“We’ve had a difficult 2020 and 2021, so I’m making sure I spend quality time with my family. In fact, I applied for leave from Dec 21, and have been helping in cleaning and decorating our house. As a family, we will be attending the midnight mass at the church on Christmas and relishing some yummy rum balls, rum and plum cakes, and ‘murukku’,” says Anisha, an employee at DuPont.
