Dalit house surgeon ends life; colleague held for cheating in Siddipet
A 23-year-old house surgeon from Jogulamba-Gadwal district died by suicide in Siddipet after being allegedly cheated by a fellow doctor who refused to marry her citing caste. Police have arrested the accused and booked him under SC/ST Act

Siddipet: Reportedly cheated by a fellow doctor in the name of love, a young house surgeon died by suicide after she injected herself with Paraquat Dichloride, a herbicide.
The woman doctor, B Lavanya (23) from Jallapuram village of Jogulamba-Gadwal district, had an exceptional academic record throughout her career. Despite studying in a social welfare residential college at Gowlidoddi, Lavanya cracked NEET in her first attempt and secured an MBBS seat in Government Medical College, Siddipet in 2020.
She was working as a house surgeon in the hospital where she came in contact with a resident doctor Pranay Teja of Alwal in July 2025. According to Siddipet ACP Ravindar Reddy, Pranay allegedly cheated the woman in the name of love. He reportedly became close to Lavanya in the name of love, but refused to marry, since she was a Dalit.
Depressed over the same, Lavanya injected herself with Paraquat Dichloride at her hostel room on January 3. Her fellow house surgeons shifted her to NIMS hospital, after initial treatment in Siddipet. However, she breathed her last in the early hours of Sunday. The incident has left her parents, who are working as daily wagers, in a shock.
Following a complaint by her sister Sirisha, a software engineer in Hyderabad, the police launched an investigation and nabbed Pranay Teja. The police registered cases under 108, 69 and SC, ST Atrocities Act against him. He was produced before a Siddipet court which sent him to remand.
