Telangana SIR hearings for urban voters to be held in evenings

Telangana has directed officials to hold SIR electoral roll hearings in the evenings in urban areas, particularly the CURE region, after low voter turnout was observed during daytime hearings. The move aims to help working professionals attend and submit documents.

Hyderabad: With most urban voters busy at work during the day, instructions have been issued to schedule the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls hearings, particularly in the Core Urban Region Economy (CURE) area, in the evenings.

The move comes after the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer’s inspection revealed no major turnout of voters for the hearings in the CURE area. In one such inspection held in Medchal-Malkajgiri district on Thursday,

Electoral Registration Officers were directed to hold hearings for working professionals in the evenings. This is aimed at giving voters flexibility to depose before the BLOs or Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) for hearing and submit necessary documents.

The AEROs and BLOs were asked to thoroughly verify records and applications related to voters who have not been mapped and those falling under the categories of discrepancies (anomalies). Instructions were also issued not to trouble voters for additional documents beyond the prescribed ones.
