Suryapet: Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy on Sunday said Telangana had topped country in public heath protection.

Distributing smart phones to ASHA workers at a programme held in his camp office here, Jagadish Reddy said that ASHA workers were playing a crucial role in ensuring healthcare services to people in urban and rural areas.

As Covid frontline warriors, services rendered by ASHA workers during pandemic time had brought special recognition to them, adding that the State government increased the wages of ASHA workers to Rs 9,750 per month.

Pointing out that ASHA workers in other states were being paid just Rs 3,000, the Minister said Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had proved that his government takes care of employees who show dedication in carrying out their duties.

He said ASHA workers had a major role to play in building a healthy Telangana. The State government decided to extend smart phones to ASHA workers to facilitate uploading health details of the people particularly pregnant women. Smart phones will be provided to all the 1,070 ASHA workers in Suryapet district, the Minister said.

District Medical and Health Officer Dr Kotachalam and others also attended the programme.
