Telangana State Legal Services Authority, Saathi, organise State-level consultation meeting

Telangana State Legal Services Authority member secretary, Ch Panchakshari said sex workers were also citizens of the country and have all the rights.

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Legal Services Authority in collaboration with Saathi, an NGO, organised a state-level consultation meeting on the Rights of Sex Workers, Covid-19 Response Mechanism (C19RM) CBO Strengthening and Legal Literacy here on Saturday.

The meet was organised to discuss the Supreme Court landmark judgment on the rights of sex workers in Budhadev Karmaskar vs. State of West Bengal case, its implications and impact on the lives of sex workers. It also explored the role of judiciary and law enforcement authority in upholding the SC judgment and obligations of the government departments in protecting rights and rehabilitation of sex workers.


Inaugurating the event, High Court judge and Telangana State Legal Services Authority executive chairman, Justice Sujoy Paul said sex workers were having equal rights and they should be treated equally without any discrimination.

Telangana State Legal Services Authority member secretary, Ch Panchakshari said sex workers were also citizens of the country and have all the rights.

Requesting all sex workers to come out of the profession and lead dignified life, Panchakshari asked them to enrol with the State Aids Control Society besides furnishing Aadhaar particulars to the DLSAs to avail ration every month from the Civil Supplies department.
