Telangana State Medical Council to take strict action against clinics registered under MBBS doctors, run by quacks
Instead of an MBBS doctor, on whose name the clinic/first aid centre is registered, a compounder with no MBBS qualification will be operating and providing treatment to gullible patients.
Hyderabad: It’s not just the quacks, even qualified doctors sometimes play a part in risking lives of patients who visit local clinics and first aid centres.
In the last few months, during the course of anti-quackery inspections, Telangana State Medical Council (TSMC) has come across instances where private healthcare facilities are registered under the name of a qualified MBBS doctor, but on the majority of occasions, they are often not available for consultations.
Instead of an MBBS doctor, on whose name the clinic/first aid centre is registered, a compounder with no MBBS qualification will be operating and providing treatment to gullible patients.
A large chunk of the population, especially families of daily wagers depend on small private clinics and first aid centres located near their settlements. With Basthi Dawakhanas not open during late evenings, such families depend on local private clinics where consultation fee is not more than Rs 50 or Rs 75.
“Doctors on whose name private clinics and healthcare facilities are registered must work there. There have been instances where this is not happening. We have already issued notices to such doctors through our Ethics Committee,” TSMC senior officer bearers said. The TSMC has been consistently conducting inspections of small private clinics and first aid centres in Kukatpally, Miyapur, Alwal, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Moula Ali etc.
