Hyderabad: Five years after it came into force, the State universities, including Osmania University, here on Saturday unanimously resolved to implement the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 framework for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes from the academic year 2026–27.
The decision was taken during a meeting of vice-chancellors of seven universities convened by TGCHE Chairman Prof V Balakista Reddy with a view to strengthen academic quality and enable universities to derive greater benefits in accreditation and ranking systems such as NAAC, NIRF, NBA and NCrF.
The implementation is expected to enhance institutional performance in national competitive grants, attract research funding and strengthen the overall academic and research ecosystem of the universities.
Accordingly, the agreed credit framework includes a minimum of 120 credits for a three-year UG degree, 160 credits for a four-year UG degree (Honours / Honours with Research) and a minimum of 80 credits for PG programmes.
During the meeting, it was also decided to constitute a committee comprising vice-chancellors of the conventional universities to prepare comprehensive guidelines on credit structure, minor degrees, credit transfer policy, multidisciplinary programmes and the implementation of the multiple entry–multiple exit system.
The VCs approved proposals for the introduction of new UG and PG programmes in emerging and interdisciplinary areas, in line with recommendations from TGCHE and the UGC.
The TGCHE guidelines for syllabus design, credit allocation and instruction hours for theory, practicals, laboratories, internships and apprenticeships in accordance with UGC regulations were also approved.
Further, the job of holding the Common Post Graduate Entrance Test (CPGET) has been entrusted to Kakatiya University, Warangal, for the academic year 2026–27.
