Telangana State Urdu Academy comes up with theme song
The three minute song reflects the tradition, history and motto of Urdu Academy much better than any exposition or dialogue.
Hyderabad: The beat is catchy and foot-tapping. The lyrics melodious and captivating. The Telangana State Urdu Academy has come up with a theme song which is both inspirational and iconic. Hyderabad’s well known poet, Sardar Saleem, has penned this rousing tarana for which Syed Imran Mustafa has given the vocals.

Ilm-wo-adab ki rah mein tujh se hai roshny
Urdu-parast qaum ki tu sarparast hai
Har saheb-e-kamal teri mai se mast hai
Dam se hai tere ilm ki dunya hari-bhari
The three minute song reflects the tradition, history and motto of Urdu Academy much better than any exposition or dialogue. In the days to come it is expected to become an integral part of the Academy’s daily routine. This stimulating signature tune is scheduled to be officially released by the Urdu Academy at a programme here on August 30.
Even in the undivided state, the Andhra Pradesh Urdu Academy never had a theme song. Now the Telangana Urdu Academy boast of its own anthem which is exhilarating to say the least. “We thought a catchy tarana is the best way to tell people about the Academy’s endeavours to promote and propagate the Urdu language”, says its Director, Dr. Mohammed Ghouse.
Theme songs tend to give vent to innermost thoughts, feelings and emotions in a way nothing else can. In recent times the Maulana Azad National Urdu University’s tarana composed by Gulzar has become highly popular and become the university’s leitmotif.
Perhaps taking a cue from it, the Telangana State Urdu Academy has gone in for its on theme song. Lyrist, Sardar Saleem, has done justice by coming up with a touching song which sets the mood and gives a peep into the functioning of the Academy. The soulful rendition by Imran Mustafa of Sima Studio adds value to it. Every time you listen to it you feel energised. More importantly, the tarana seeks to connect listeners to the institution as also to the Urdu language. The hummable tune and the lovely visuals will linger into mind long after it is played off.
