Telangana student declared brain dead after road accident in US

A 26-year-old student from Telangana has been declared brain dead after sustaining critical injuries in a road accident near Ann Arbor, Michigan. Doctors confirmed brain death after a rare complication developed during treatment, while he remains on life support.

Hyderabad: A 26-year-old student from Telangana has been declared brain dead after suffering critical injuries in a road accident near Ann Arbor, Michigan, in the United States on July 18.

The victim, Nithyanand Reddy Gannu alias Nandhu, hails from Narsapur village in Laxmanchanda mandal of Nirmal district. He completed his Master’s in Information Systems from Indiana Tech between January 2023 and December 2024.

According to information shared by family members and friends, Nandhu suffered multiple grievous injuries in the accident, including a severe fracture that required emergency surgery. During treatment, he developed a rare complication known as cerebral fat embolism, which caused extensive brain damage.

Doctors have officially declared him brain dead, and he is currently being kept on life support.

The incident has left Nandhu’s family, friends and members of the Indian community in the US devastated. They have appealed for prayers and support for the family during this difficult time.
