Adilabad: He is barely 16 years old. However, he is showing great compassion on par with adults in serving the needy.

Meet Surakanti Sujay Reddy, an intermediate student and the son of businessman Srinivas Reddy and software professional Vijayashanti from Echoda mandal centre. He is passionately striving hard to improve the health of tribal children. He founded a voluntary organisation, Samroha in 2022, with an objective to help tribal children overcome malnutrition and create awareness among the tribals over the merits of literacy.

Sujay adopted Kolamguda village in Adilabad Rural mandal two years back. He has been supplying 200 millilitres of milk and around 100 grams of leafy vegetables to 38 tribal children each with malnutrition per day at the village for two years. He is also raising awareness among tribals of the village over the importance of literacy. He is spending around Rs 15,000, sponsored by his parents, a month.

“I was moved by the plight of the children who were facing problems in growth due to malnutrition when I, along with my grandfather, visited a village a few years back. I discussed the idea of setting up the voluntary organisation with my parents, who readily agreed to extend support to the cause,” Sujay told ‘Telangana Today.’

The boy, studying Intermediate first year at a college in Hyderabad, is spending time serving the needy whenever he gets holidays. Besides assisting the children in combating malnutrition, he is raising awareness among the tribals over literacy and how to save funds by conducting meetings. He is helping the tribals to achieve financial empowerment as well.

District Medical and Health Officer Dr Narender Rathod, who visited the village recently, appreciated Sujay Reddy for providing the milk and leafy vegetables. He said that the boy was doing a commendable job by working hard in addressing malnutrition among tribal children and transforming the lives of tribals. He advised philanthropists to draw inspiration from the teenager in helping the tribals.
