MAHABUBABAD: Tension prevailed in the town after Salarthanda villagers obstructed revenue officials from conducting land surveys.
Accompanied by a large contingent of police, the Revenue Department officials had arrived in the village on the town fringes. They wanted to conduct a land survey for national highway construction from Valigonda to Bhadrachalam. However, villagers are up in arms against the land survey.
Last week also, the villagers opposed land survey for national highway works. When the officials along with police had arrived in Salarthanda village, the residents said they would not part with their land for national highway works.
The villagers are fuming over the officials as to why the national highway was being planned through fertile lands. Apart from losing valuable land, the farmers said they would lose their livelihood. Many houses and fertile lands are likely to be acquired for the highway project.
