Hyderabad: The Intermediate Education department has recently removed 35 government junior lecturers from service on charges of submitting fake certificates to secure jobs.
Of the total, six are from Rajanna-Sircilla, three each from Peddapalli, Siddipet and Suryapet, two each from Bhadradri Kothagudem, Karimnagar, Khammam, Nirmal, Rangareddy and Sangareddy, and one each from Jagtial, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Asifabad, Mahabubabad, Nagarkurnool, Nalgonda, Nizamabad and Vikarabad. These individuals had submitted certificates from universities located outside the State.
Contract lecturers had been engaged in government junior colleges against regular vacancies for the past two decades. However, several contract faculty members allegedly submitted fake certificates at the time of appointment. They were later regularised.
As there were allegations that some faculty members had submitted fake certificates, the Regional Joint Director of Intermediate Education office sent the certificates to the respective universities to verify their authenticity. The universities confirmed that the certificates were fake.
Following this, the department issued show-cause notices to the lecturers concerned, seeking an explanation. Later, they were removed from service. Earlier, around 10 lecturers were terminated after their certificates were found to be fake.
Apart from these cases, officials have also raised suspicion over certificates submitted by 320 more lecturers. The certificates have been sent to the respective universities for verification.
Meanwhile, Intermediate Education JAC chairman Dr P Madhusudan Reddy demanded that a CB-CID and Vigilance inquiry be conducted into the fake certificate issue and the role of officials. He also demanded action against those who had earlier certified the certificates as genuine.
