Hyderabad: The Telangana Thalli flyover, a prominent landmark near the Secretariat, is currently undergoing a visual transformation. The well-known Buddha-themed mural paintings that once adorned the pillars and were a favourite among many city commuters have recently been removed.

According to officials of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, the revamp involves replacing the previous murals with new artwork across all 47 pillars. While the earlier Buddha-themed art was popular among the public, officials clarified that the current bare structures are a temporary phase in a larger beautification project.

With an allocated budget of around Rs 60 lakh, the project will use eco-friendly natural colours. The new theme is designed to celebrate Telangana’s heritage, local festivals and unique biodiversity.

While some commuters expressed nostalgia for the serene Buddha depictions, the GHMC aims to restore the flyover’s aesthetic appeal by the end of the month. The goal is to create a vibrant cultural corridor stretching towards the Ambedkar Statue, ensuring the heart of the city reflects the state’s evolving identity.
