Medak: An unidentified person broke into the sanctum sanctorum of Sri Vana Durga Bhavani temple in Edupayala, Papannapet mandal in the district during the intervening hours of Wednesday and Thursday and decamped with Rs 80,000 cash and other valuables dropped by devotees in the temple hundi.
In the CCTV footage, only one miscreant was seen entering the sanctum sanctorum after breaking the window panes of a window in the temple. Earlier, the miscreant attempts to enter from the main entrance and VIP entrance but failed. When the temple was opened on Thursday morning, the priests found that the Hundi was opened forcibly and the window panes were damaged.
Following a complaint from Executive Officer Sara Srinivas, Additional SP Bala Swamy, and Medak DSP Saidulu along with a clues team visited the temple. After examining the crime scene and CCTV footage, Saidulu said only one miscreant entered the temple. The police, however, are not sure whether it was the work of only one person or others were involved.
Saidulu exuded confidence that the culprit would be nabbed soon. Meanwhile, devotees expressed concern over the lack of security at the temple though it witnesses a huge number of devotees every day. They said the temple management could have built stronger windows and doors to prevent such thefts. Papannapet police registered a case and the investigation is on.
