Karimnagar: In a tragic incident, three of a family committed suicide in Katnapalli of Choppadandi mandal. The weaving community family took an extreme step due to financial problems.
Bairi Shankaraiah (54), his wife Jamuna (52) and son Sridhar (25) were found dead in their home on Monday. While Shankaiah was running a powerloom, Sridhar was working in a private company.
According to the police, the trio committed suicide by hanging themselves from the ceiling on Sunday night. Before taking the extreme step, they locked the house from the outside and entered the house from the rear door.
The family did not respond to phone calls made by A Akhila, daughter of the couple, on Sunday night as well as on Monday morning. Subsequently, she asked the neighbours to check the house in the morning. The three were found dead in the house when neighbours broke open the lock. Akhila was married to one Krishna of Bhagathnagar of Karimnagar in November last year.
The family was reeling under debts after the couple performed their daughter’s marriage. Unable to clear debts, they took the extreme step. Based on the complaint lodged by Akhila, police registered a case and began the investigation.
On coming to know about the incident, Choppadandi MLA Sunke Ravishankar consoled the family members in the district headquarters hospital. Ravishankar assured the kin of victims of all assistance. The weavers’ community should be courageous and self-confident since the State government was implementing a number of schemes for their welfare, he said.
