Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said the State has set a target to add 40,000 megawatt additional renewable energy capacity by 2035.

Addressing the 4th Global Renewable Energy Investor’s Meet and Expo (RE-INVEST), in Gandhinagar, Gujarat on Monday, Bhatti said Telangana was developing a comprehensive renewable energy(RE) policy to ensure sustainable, reliable and affordable power, promote Renewable Energy projects and attract private investments.

The new RE policy include investment incentives such as tax benefits and subsidies, single-window clearances, transparent resource allocation and procurement guidelines, a robust infrastructure plan for transmission and grid connectivity, he said, adding that the State was also promoting partnerships with research institutions and incentives for RE manufacturers.

With over 300 days of sunshine, Telangana had an estimated solar potential of approximately 26.4 Giga Watt, he said, adding that as one of the top windy States in India, Telangana had wind potential of approximately 54 GW at 150 meters.

Stating that the State had two major hydro projects with pump operations at Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar, the Energy Minister said there were still opportunities to take up power generation through pumped storage here.

Besides these there was more scope for taking up riverine and off-river pumped storage projects (psp) using reservoirs and abandoned mines, he said, adding that other green power potentials include hydrogen, geothermal (about 1500 to 3,000 MW) and mini hydel (about 250 MW) power generation.
