Hyderabad: In a major relief to students from Telangana who were pursuing medicine in Ukraine, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao here on Tuesday said that Telangana government will bear the entire expenditure for the students so that they can continue with their education.

While speaking in the Telangana assembly on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said that there were nearly 20,000 youngsters from across the country who were pursuing education in Ukraine out of which 740 medical students were from Telangana.

“The Telangana government will provide them with financial support so that they can continue their education,” Chandrashekhar Rao assured.

In this regard, the Chief Minister directed the Chief Secretary to write to the Government of India on the issue of supporting the educational needs of the students, who have returned from Ukraine.

The Chief Minister also criticised what he termed as “insensitive statements” made by some Union Ministers, who said that a majority of the Indian medical students returning from Ukraine never managed to clear the qualifying examinations needed to pursue practice in India.
