Hyderabad: The Telangana police will deploy tourist police to enhance the safety and security of visitors at key attractions across the State.
A coordination meeting between the Telangana Tourism Department and the police was held on Wednesday. Tourism Department Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, Additional DGP (Law and Order) Mahesh M Bhagwat, Tourism Department Managing Director V Kranti, Film Development Corporation Managing Director Ch Priyanka, and senior police officers attended.
Telangana DGP Dr Jitender said that in the first phase, 80 police personnel would be allocated to the Tourism Department. A comprehensive ‘Tourist Police System’ will be in place by World Tourism Day on September 27.
Tourist police units will be stationed at major destinations including Ananthagiri, Somasila, Ramappa, Yadagirigutta, Pochampally, Nagarjunasagar, Buddhavanam, Bhadrachalam, Amrabad, and other key locations. The DGP assured full cooperation to the Tourism Department in promoting and securing tourism in Telangana.
He also suggested preparing standard operating procedures for issuing shooting permits and organising special events. Film producers and event organisers were advised to inform authorities in advance to ensure adequate security arrangements.
