Telangana to get heatwave relief as IMD forecasts rain, temperature drop
Telangana is set to receive relief from an intense heatwave as the IMD forecasts thunderstorms, rainfall, and a temperature drop of 2–3°C between May 5 and May 8, with heavy rain alerts issued for several districts.
Hyderabad: Here is some cool news for people of Telangana who have been facing the brunt of a severe heatwave for the past fortnight. From May 5 to May 8, a respite from the scorching heatwave is expected, as the mercury dips by two to three degree Celsius. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad, severe thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds will be active throughout Telangana.
While maximum temperatures are expected to remain high over the next 48 hours, hovering between 41 degree Celsius and 44 degree Celsius in most districts, from May 5, a noticeable shift in temperatures is being forecasted. The IMD bulletin indicates a gradual fall in maximum temperatures by 2 degree Celsius to 3 degree Celsius during the subsequent three days.
On May 6, the IMD, Hyderabad has issued a heavy rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) warning to almost all the districts including Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Warangal, Hanumakonda, KomuramBheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Jangaon, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, Jogulamba Gadwal districts of Telangana.
By May 6 and 7, almost all the districts in Telangana will witness a significant mercury drop into the 36 degree Celsius to 40 degree Celsius range, providing a much-needed break from the severe heatwave conditions.
Heavy rainfall warning has been issued for isolated places in districts such as Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Warangal, and Hanumakonda are under a heavy rain alert for May 5 and 6. The IMD, Hyderabad, has also issued a widespread thunderstorm warning on May 7, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds for all districts of Telangana. Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely to occur at a few places across the state till May 9, the forecast added.
