Telangana to hold public hearing on new power distribution licence on May 28
The Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission (TGERC) will conduct a public hearing on May 28 regarding the licence application of the newly formed Telangana Rythu Power Distribution Company Limited (TGRPDCL). Citizens can submit objections or suggestions by May 18.

Hyderabad: A public hearing on the Telangana Rythu Power Distribution Company Limited (TGRPDCL) licence application will be held on May 28 at the Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission (TGERC) from 11 am onwards.
TGRPDCL has applied for a power distribution licence under the Electricity Act, 2003. The TGERC has invited the public to send their comments, suggestions, or objections on this proposal. They must be submitted in writing by 5 pm on May 18 either by post or email (secy-tgerc@telangana.gov.in).
The application documents can be checked at TGRPDCL offices in Hyderabad and other DISCOM offices. They are also available on the official website.
TGRPDCL is a new government-owned power distribution company formed on March 11, 2026. It is the third DISCOM in Telangana and aims to improve power supply, especially for key sectors.
The company plans to supply electricity to agriculture, lift irrigation schemes, Mission Bhagiratha (water supply schemes), Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) and certain municipal water connections.
Its responsibilities will include buying power, providing new agricultural connections, maintaining transformers and power lines, and tracking electricity usage through meters. The focus will be on providing reliable and quality power.
The formation of TGRPDCL is expected to strengthen power distribution and improve electricity supply, especially for agriculture and water services, a press release said.
