Telangana to increase godown capacity to 40 lakh metric tonnes
The increase in storage capacity was essential to cater to the increasing agriculture production the State has been witnessing every year, said Finance Minister T Harish Rao
Siddipet: The State government will take up construction of godowns across Telangana to increase storage capacity from the existing 25 lakh metric tonne to 40 lakh metric tonne, Finance Minister T Harish Rao said on Wednesday. The increase in storage capacity was essential to cater to the increasing agriculture production the State has been witnessing every year, he said.
Addressing a gathering after the swearing in ceremony of Mirudoddi Market Committee in the district, the Minister said the existing godowns were not enough since the area under irrigation had increased considerably in the past seven years.
Stating that Telangana had emerged as the rice bowl of India producing the highest quantity of paddy on account of various irrigation projects, Harish Rao said migrant workers from Jharkhand, Bihar, and Chhattisgarh were coming to Telangana to work as farm labour which indicates there was a great demand for labour in the agriculture sector.
To address the issue, the Minister said the government was encouraging farmers to opt for dry seeding of paddy replacing the existing practice of raising nursery which needs more investment and labour. To encourage farmers to cultivate diverse crops, it was also encouraging farmers to opt for Red Gram from this year onwards, he said.
Despite facing various challenges during the last one year, Rao said Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has released the Rythu Bandhu incentive to farmers though the revenue has considerably declined during the past one year.
When the locals urged the Minister to grant funds to complete the under construction SC and ST Community Hall in Dubbak, the Minister assured to grant the necessary funds.
He said that they will soon issue new ration cards besides giving free electricity to barbers and washermen communities. MP Medak Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, ZP Chairman V Roja Sharma and others were present.
Later, the Minister presented Kalyana Lakshmi and Shadi Mubarak cheques to 41 beneficiaries in Siddipet.
