Telangana to introduce 10 new diploma programmes in government polytechnics

The Telangana State Board of Technical Education and Training will introduce 10 new industry-driven diploma programmes in government polytechnics from 2026–27, adding over 2,280 seats and focusing on job-oriented education for Class X students.

Hyderabad: Students wishing to pursue polytechnic will have new diploma programmes to choose from the next academic year. The Telangana State Board of Technical Education and Training (SBTET) is launching 10 new diploma programmes in the government polytechnics from 2026-27.

The new programmes are in semiconductor technology, advanced manufacturing technology, aircraft maintenance engineering, automation and robotics, biotechnology, civil engineering (building services engineering), civil engineering, real estate and valuation, construction technology and management, interior design and landscape design.


These new industry-driven diploma programs are aimed at increasing enrolment in the government polytechnics besides focusing on rural, low-income and first-generation students. They also promote job-oriented diploma education after Class X, said A Pullaiah, Secretary SBTET.

As many as 2,280 seats, including 720 in semiconductor technology, 480 in automation and robotics, and 240 in advanced manufacturing technology, will be enhanced in the government polytechnics.
For the academic year 2025-26, 25 diploma programmes are on offer with a total intake of 13,050 seats by the government polytechnics. With introduction of new programmes and addition of 2,880 seats in core programmes, over 18,300 seats are expected to be available for admissions in the next academic year.

In addition to introducing new programs, new subjects have also been incorporated into the existing 25 diploma programmes to strengthen and modernize the academic framework. The subjects are fundamentals of IoT & Python programming, fundamentals of AI and ML, techno entrepreneurship and startups, systems engineering, innovation and design thinking lab and digital fabrication.

The curriculum for these futuristic programmes has been designed in collaboration with IIT Hyderabad, Confederation of Indian Industry, industry experts and alumni. This will ensure strong industry alignment, practical exposure and enhanced employability from the early stages of study, said Pullaiah.
During the academic year 2025-26, a total of 115 polytechnics, including 59 government and 56 private polytechnics offered a total of 30,102 intake and 64 percent of the seats had been filled.
