Khammam: The State government has chalked out plans to take the Information Technology (IT) industry to tier cities like Khammam, Warangal, Karimnagar, Siddipet and others in a big way, besides providing broadband connection to every household in the State, IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao said on Friday.

“When Telangana State was carved out, the volume of IT exports was only Rs 56,000 crore. Now, the IT exports have increased exponentially and its volume reached around Rs 1.40 lakh crore,” he said.

Rama Rao, accompanied by Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar and R&B Minister V Prashanth Reddy, laid the foundation stone for phase-II of the IT Hub here on Friday.

“There were many apprehensions about investment flow into Telangana when the State was created. Many had misgivings whether the investments made in the State at the time of Telangana’s formation would survive, let alone flow of new investments. But the administrative acumen of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, a stable government, well-defined policies and committed officers made the State witness amazing growth in the IT sector,” he explained.

The Minister revealed that besides establishing IT Hubs in tier-II cities to create job opportunities for local youth, measures to provide broadband internet services to every household in Telangana would be taken in the days to come.

Efforts were on to embrace new technological developments in e-health, e-commerce for the expansion of the IT sector in the State for the benefit of future generations, Rama Rao said, adding that numerous world-class companies have been coming forward to set up their bases in the State.

Ajay Kumar, in his address, said that as many as 19 companies were running their operations from Khammam IT Hub phase-I providing employment to over 350 local youth. With its success and as the works for setting up a second IT Hub have kick-started, many companies from the US, Australia and other nations are showing interest to set their base here, he said.

The minster noted that measures would be taken to complete the construction of the second IT Hub as per schedule to offer employment to more graduates while the District Collector RV Karnan said in addition to offering jobs, skilling activities were also going on with the help of Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge (TASK).

Rama Rao earlier handed over offer letters to 15 newly recruited graduates on the occasion.
