Hyderabad: IT Minister D Sridhar Babu said the State government would soon launch a cyber security policy in compliance with India’s digital personal data and protection law. Telangana has been proactive in developing cyber security ecosystem and focusing on countering cyber threats, he said.

“The government is in discussions to establish cyber defence centre in Hyderabad. It will safeguard citizens and government entities from cyber threats,” Sridhar Babu said at the Cyber Security Conclave 2025 here on Tuesday.

Earlier, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said official statistics disclosed that cyber criminals looted Rs.22,812 crore in the country last year.

Cybercrime was posing a big threat to the country’s economy as well as the citizens, he said, adding that fake news was another big threat these days and misinformation on social media is creating chaos in the society.

Telangana was one among a few States, which established a fully functioning Cyber Security Bureau and a dedicated cyber crime helpline to protect citizens from cyber frauds and crimes, he said.

“I appeal to all to share the 1930 cyber helpline number which works round the clock,” Revanth Reddy said, adding that the State government had started seven new dedicated cybercrime police stations last year.
