Telangana Today Impact: HMWSSB resolves sewage leak issue in Shaikpet

HMWSSB workers fixed a sewage leak at Vinayak Nagar Colony in Shaikpet after Telangana Today highlighted residents’ concerns over overflowing sewage near a Ganesh idol installation. The repair brought relief to residents and the local Ganesh Utsav Committee

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) workers addressed a sewage leak in Vinayak Nagar Colony, Shaikpet, on Sunday, bringing relief to residents and the Ganesh Utsav Committee.

The action followed a report, ‘Residents forced to install their idol next to overflowing sewage in Shaikpet’, published in Telangana Today on September 19. Residents had installed their traditional 10-foot Ganesh idol on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi beside overflowing sewage, while drain water had inundated the streets and caused a persistent stench. Their earlier complaints had failed to resolve the issue.

Maryala Ajay Kumar, UFERWAS member and joint secretary of Vinayak Nagar Colony Welfare Association, said two workers traced the leak to a manhole and fixed the sewage leakage.

Ajay Kumar alleged that although a budget of Rs 23 lakh had been sanctioned for HMWSSB, officials had failed to start the work. He said residents had now been relieved of the sewerage leakage problem. He thanked Telangana Today for highlighting the issue and helping get it resolved.
