The arrested were identified as Varanasi Subramanyam aka Srikanth alias Aman alias Vimal, a former Central Committee member, and his wife Vijayalaxmi alias Sridhara, a district committee member of CPI (Maoist)

Mancherial: In a major blow to the Maoist party, a couple belonging to outlawed outfit was arrested in Vijayawada and produced before the media in Mancherial on Monday. A laptop, a mobile phone, two micro memory cards and literature belonging to the party were seized from them.
Ramagundam Commissioner of Police V Satyanarayana said Varanasi Subramanyam aka Srikanth alias Aman alias Vimal, a former Central Committee member and a native of Markapuram in Prakasham district, and his wife Vijayalaxmi alias Sridhara, a district committee member were arrested when they were heading for Ramakrishnapur from Vijayawada, following a tip-off.
Subramanyam and Vijayalaxmi took shelter in the house of Gurijala Ravinder Rao, a surrendered member of the banned Maoist party and state honorary president of Telangana Intellectuals Forum, Ramakrishnapur, for 20 days in November last. They admitted that they were planning to revive and regain the past glory of Singareni Karmeeka Sangham (SiKaSA), an affiliate of Maoist party in the coal belt region.
Subramanyam confessed to being associated with SiKaSa when he was working with the Maoist party in erstwhile Adilabad district in 1980s. He rose to be CCM of the outfit in 2004. He played an active role in the party’s north India’s bureau. He was arrested in Bihar in 2011 and was released on bail in 2019. He again started taking part in the activities of the party folloiwng instructions from the top leaders.
Vijayalaxmi, an employee of Bank of Mysore, was attracted to Maoist ideology. She got married to Subramanyam in 1990 and subsequently quit the bank job. She was later involved in Maoist activities and was operating dens for its members. She was on her way to Mancherial from Chandigharh when she arrested. The couple was produced before a court.
Mancherial Deputy Commissioner of Police D Uday Kumar Reddy and Bellampalli ACP Rahemand were present.
It may be recalled that Gurijala Ravinder Rao, former state president of Telangana Vidya Vanthula Vedika was arrested at his residence on Sunday. Literature and memory cards of Maoist party were recovered from his residence.
