Hyderabad: Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy on Tuesday said the per capita power consumption in Telangana State for 2020-21 was 2,012 units and the State topped the country in per capita power consumption growth rate. Telangana is fifth in the country in overall per capita power consumption, the Minister said during question hour in the Legislative Assembly here. After State formation, an additional capacity of 9,680 MW was being added and of these, 7,962 MW capacity projects were in different stages of completion.
Stating that the power crisis was one of the major challenges after the State formation, Jagadish Reddy said Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s vision and planning, however, helped the State overcome the crisis within a short time. Soon after the State formation, in the first three months, 24 hours quality power supply was ensured for domestic and industrial sectors. And in about a year, uninterrupted power was supplied for nine hours to the agriculture sector, he recalled.
“Subsequently, Telangana set a record as the only State that was providing 24 hours uninterrupted free power to the agriculture sector within three years after Chandrashekhar Rao took charge as Chief Minister,” said Jagadish Reddy. After the State formation, the Telangana government spent a whopping Rs 16,210 crore on transmission, HT substations, EHT lines and distribution lines, he added.
