Karimnagar: BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar on Wednesday said Telangana was the only State in the country that was implementing welfare schemes such as Kalyanalaxmi, Shadhi Mubharak and KCR Kits.
Besides these schemes, the State government was also implementing Aasara pensions, Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima, Dalit Bandhu, 24 hours free electricity, among others, the Minister said. “Why couldn’t successive governments in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh not come up with such schemes for the welfare of the people?” he asked, adding that it was only because of the visionary Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao that people of the State were reaping benefits of such schemes.
Speaking after distributing Kalyanalaxmi and Shadhi Mubharak cheques to beneficiaries in Huzurabad, he said parents belonging to poorer sections of society used to borrow money from private money lenders to perform marriages of their daughters.
“Unable to clear debts, they used to sell lands and other properties,” he said, adding that to put an end to such practice, the Chief Minister introduced Kalyanalaxmi and Shadhi Mubharak after State formation.
Pointing out that BJP leader Eatala Rajender described Kalyanalaxmi and other welfare schemes as peanuts, Kamalakar said no BJP-ruled State was implementing such schemes.
“People should decide whether they want to support BJP that had not thought of such welfare schemes or TRS, which was extending support to all sections of society,” he said. He asked the people to question BJP leaders, who were approaching them for votes, that why these welfare schemes have not been implemented in the States wherein BJP was in power.
Despite the financial crisis across the globe due to Covid pandemic, the Telangana government had not stalled a single welfare scheme. Moreover, Rs 1,500 and 15 kg rice were supplied to the poor, he added.
