Hyderabad: Despite cyber fraudsters cheating people of Rs 1,524 crore in 2025, Telangana reduced financial losses by 20 per cent, registered the highest number of cybercrime FIRs in the country and improved recovery of victims’ money.

Against this backdrop, DGP C.V. Anand on Thursday said cybercrime has emerged as the biggest challenge for law enforcement and warned that failure to effectively control it could have serious consequences.
Reviewing the functioning of the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB), the DGP assessed measures aimed at strengthening cybercrime prevention, enhancing technological capabilities and ensuring faster assistance to victims.

During the review, Anand witnessed a demonstration of the Bureau’s AI-powered Cyber Call Centre, which immediately responded to a cyber fraud victim, collected essential details and simultaneously alerted the jurisdictional police station for prompt action.
Officials informed the DGP that Telangana recorded 91,369 cybercrime complaints during 2025, a 3 per cent decline from the previous year. The amount placed on hold in fraudsters’ bank accounts increased from Rs 255 crore to Rs 279 crore, while the hold percentage improved from 9 per cent to 12 per cent.

Of the 49,620 cybercrime FIRs registered across India in 2025, 21,639 FIRs, which constitutes nearly 44 per cent were registered in Telangana, making it the top-ranking State.
Also, the FIR conversion rate stood at 78 per cent in fraud cases involving losses above Rs 75 lakh and 56 per cent in cases involving losses above Rs 1 lakh.
