Hyderabad: As part of the effort to popularise the Ramappa Temple, also known as Rudreshwara Temple, situated in Palampet village of Mulugu district, as a prominent tourist destination, the Tourism Development Corporation has decided to introduce a Hyderabad-Warangal-Ramappa Temple tour package every Saturday and Sunday.

According to officials, the tour will start from Yatri Niwas in Hyderabad at 6.30 am and return at 9.30 pm the same day. As part of the tour package, tourists will visit Bhadrakali, Padmakshi, Thousand Pillar Temple and Ramappa Temple. The package has been fixed at Rs.2,800 for adults and Rs.2,240 for children.

Constructed in the 13th century during the reign of the Kakatiya dynasty, Ramappa temple was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2021, making it an architectural gem of global significance. The temple is famous for its intricate carvings, floating bricks, and its remarkable sandbox foundation.

The temple was commissioned in 1213 CE by Recharla Rudra, a general of the Kakatiya dynasty, under the rule of King Ganapati Deva. It is named after its chief sculptor, Ramappa, which is rare, as temples in India are usually named after gods or kings. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and houses a grand Shivalinga in the main sanctum.

Ramappa Temple is renowned for its incredible engineering, including the use of floating bricks in the roof, which significantly reduced the weight of the structure. The intricate carvings on the pillars, ceilings, and walls depict scenes from Indian mythology, the life of the Kakatiyas, and dancers from that era, reflecting the cultural richness of the period.
