Khammam: Leaders of several trade unions demanded that the State government should pay increased wages to municipal workers as per the recent 11th PRC recommendations. Speaking at a meeting here on Wednesday, the Telangana State Municipal Staff and Outsourcing Workers Union (AITUC) Manda Venkateshwarlu alleged that Khammam Municipal Corporation officials not only deprived the contract staff of their rights but have also been harassing them.
CITU district president Tumma Vishnuvardhan, Telangana Progressive Municipal Workers Union (IFTU) State president G Ramaiah and INTUC president K Sitaramulu warned that the municipal workers were ready to go on strike for the increased wages. The salaries of municipal contract staff have to be paid as per the GO 60 along with the arrears from June onwards category-wise. The unions would take up phased manner agitations to get increased salaries announced by the state government, they said.
The authorities were arbitrarily appointing new and inexperienced people to work in the divisions ignoring the existing workforce. When the workers questioned it, the officials were blaming that the workers were using foul language, the leaders complained. Similarly, the members and leaders of Telangana All Pensioners and Retired Persons Association have staged a demonstration here seeking implementation of 11th PRC recommendations and to clear the pending dues along with arrears.
