Judge raps top Police official in contempt plea
Justice Challa Kodandarami Ram was unhappy with the Commissioner of Police for not complying with orders of the court. The judge was dealing with a contempt petition filed by Rajshree Karwa. Earlier the judge directed the Commissioner of Police to produce the CCTV footage of the Excise Police Station at Attapur and other CCTV footage from all the traffic signals and toll booths falling between Attapur and Achampet, for a particular date. Damodar Mundra, counsel for the petitioner, informed that the Excise department illegally arrested the husband of the petitioner at Attapur Excise Station for an inter-State business and registered a false case in Achampet against him.
The government pleader appearing for the police informed that by the time they could get the order copy, the entire data in the CCTV footage was deleted as they could only have data of 30 days. The judge came down heavily stating that the apex court in a number of cases has categorically stated and informed the State to have the data of all the CCTV cameras for a minimum period of 18 months. He also told the government pleader not to save the skin of the officer as the CCTV footage would clearly reveal the facts. The judge posted the matter to Friday directing the government pleader to get all the records.
