Hyderabad: After city traffic police wing, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is contemplating to appoint transgenders in other departments as well, said Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister D Anasuya.

Under a pilot project, the State government had appointed 44 transgenders as traffic assistants six months ago. Of them, five had withdrawn citing health issues and one due to personal problems.

The Minister held a meeting to review the performance of the transgenders here on Monday.

The transgenders proved their mettle by serving efficiently and not a single complaint has been lodged against them so far. All measures would be taken to ensure that transgenders do not face any discrimination, she said.

“The pilot project will be replicated in other departments. Transgenders should make good use of the opportunities being provided by the State government,” Anasuya said.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand stated that the process of recruiting transgender individuals was completed within 10 days in December last.

He also assured to support those who were interested to work as private security guards. “Perform their duties responsibly to earn a good reputation, which would encourage government to extend further support,” he said.

Thanking the State government, the transgenders urged that they be provided with facilities similar to those offered to home guards.
