Telangana: TSWRDC student dies by suicide in Mancherial

Lakshmi Prasanna (19), a second year degree student of the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Degree college (Girls) allegedly jumped off a building and died while undergoing treatment 

Mancherial: A student, who sustained serious injuries when she allegedly jumped off a building of the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Degree college (Girls), died while undergoing treatment here on Thursday.

College officiails said Lakshmi Prasanna (19), a second year degree student at the college, sustained serious head injuries when she allegedly jumped from the roof of the multi-storied building. She was rushed to a hospital in the town, where she breathed her last. She was a resident of Jaggayyapet village in Bheemini mandal.

Officials said it was yet to be ascertained why she resorted to the drastic step. A departmental inquiry was initiated into the incident, with Collector Kumar Deepak asking officials to take steps to prevent recurrence of similar incidents. Parents of the girl lodged a complaint with the police. A case was registered. Investigations were taken up.

Meanwhile, mild tension prevailed when parents and student unions prevented the police from shifting the body from the hospital to a mortuary for autopsy. union activists and policemen jostled each other. Police had to disperse the activists, resulting in tension for a while. However, the agitators withdrew the protest when police assured them of justice.
