Jagitial: A barren couple, who lost their jobs in Mumbai after the Covid-19 pandemic, ended their lives in their residence in Shiva street here on Thursday. The couple, Gangi Rambabu (50) and his wife Lavanya (48) were reported to have hanged themselves in their house. As the couple did not come out of the house till evening, local people opened the windows, noticed the hanging bodies and alerted the police.

According to police and local people, the couple was already frustrated over not conceiving children and were further depressed over financial constraints as they lost their jobs in Mumbai. The couple returned to Jagitial from Mumbai a few months ago.

They were confined to the house for the past few days as they were infected by coronavirus. Rambabu’s father Rajesham died of ill-health ten months ago. Unable to cope with financial burdens, Rambabu had tried to sell his house, but could not do so due to family disputes.

Upset over all these developments, the couple took an extreme step, it was believed. However, one day before the incident, Rambabu informed his brother-in-law staying in Sultanabad that they would visit a hospital in Karimnagar for coronavirus treatment, police said. Since the couple was infected by coronavirus, police searched for evidence by wearing PPE kits.
