Telangana urea shortage: CM urges Centre for immediate supply; alleges discrimination
elangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy criticised the Centre for failing to supply the full sanctioned quota of urea, saying only 5.32 lakh metric tonnes were delivered against 8.30 lakh approved. He demanded immediate supply to protect farmers’ interests
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, slamming the BJP-led Centre for discrimination towards Telangana, urged the Centre to immediately supply urea to farmers as per the sanctioned requirement.
In a statement on Tuesday, he said MPs from Telangana had already raised the issue with Union Ministers, highlighting the problems caused by the inadequate supply of urea to the State despite the approved allocation.
The Chief Minister pointed out that although 8.30 lakh metric tonnes of urea had been allocated to Telangana for the current Kharif season, only 5.32 lakh metric tonnes had been supplied so far, leaving a shortfall of nearly 3 lakh metric tonnes and causing hardship for farmers across the State.
He also referred to a representation submitted to Union Minister for Fertilizers and Chemicals JP Nadda by the State’s MPs.
The Chief Minister further stated that he had personally taken up the matter with the Union Minister, while State Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageshwara Rao had also written multiple times to the Centre on the issue.
Alleging discrimination by the Centre, he criticised its continued negligence and said that despite repeated efforts by Telangana MPs, including raising the matter in Parliament and staging protests on behalf of farmers, the supply had not matched the approved quota.
The Chief Minister reiterated his demand for the immediate delivery of urea in line with the sanctioned allocation to protect the interests of Telangana farmers.
