Hyderabad: Telangana is working to use data sets to aid in decision making. The Government is open to work with companies and startups to solve population scale problems using data including in the departments like the Municipal Administration, health, transport and other segments, said Industries Minister KT Rama Rao.

Inaugurating the India head officer of Gramener, a New-Jersey-based data science company that helps solve business problems, at SLN-One West building in Nanakramguda on Monday, he asked the builder community to come forward to adopt the lakes in the city and maintain them. He said the Government is willing to work with data science companies like Gramener in departments like the municipal administration and others to come up with solutions that can ease the building permission processes, increase the efficiency and also up the coordination with other departments.

Telangana identified the need to base its decisions on data. Telangana, soon after it came into being, took up a massive data collection exercise ‘Samagra Kutumba Survey’, one of its kind exercises covering all the households in the State, Rama Rao said adding that data sciences is one of the underrated segments and has huge potential to solve many problems. Telangana has created about 36 crore data sets about two years ago and the number is growing, he said.

Gramener’s Hyderabad office will have more than 250 people with expertise in data science, statistics, design, and technology. “Gramener originated in Hyderabad in 2010 as the first data science and storytelling company and soon expanded globally, transforming decision making in enterprises, the public sector, and non-profits. We are glad to make our investments in Hyderabad as the city provides access to key talent, great infrastructure, and entrepreneur-friendly IT policies to support our rapid growth,” said Gramener Co-founder Naveen Gattu.

“Gramener sees tremendous opportunity in North America, where businesses are looking to leverage AI in business decisions. Our focus is on pharma and life sciences, supply chain, and logistics. Gramener’s expansion in Hyderabad will help us to address this demand from the North American market there by bringing more than 500 data science jobs to Hyderabad over the next two years,” Gramener’s Chief Revenue Officer Matt Ferry.

Gramener has its principal office in Princeton, New Jersey. In India, its offices are in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, and Hyderabad. The organisation also has international offices in Canada, Dubai, Switzerland, and Singapore.
