Kothagudem: The Commissioner, Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad (TVVP) has responded to a news story published by ‘Telangana Today’ on February 8 about complaints of alleged corruption and poor services at Government Area Hospital at Bhadrachalam in the district.

According to the Commissioner, hospital medical superintendent Dr M Ramakrishna had clarified complaints of corruption at the hospital by a woman, G Sravani Kumari, who posted a video message on social media, stating that they were false and meant to blame the hospital staff even after conducting a safe delivery.

He said the woman was examined by gynaecologist Dr D Prameela Rani on January 1 and she underwent lower segment Caesarean section (LSCS) on February 4. The operation was uneventful and she was discharged successfully. The superintendent said the woman was very sensitive and not cooperative on the operating table.

Referring to alleged sarcastic comments by the gynecologist, the superintendent said there was no intention behind the comments and they were meant to relieve the patient from anxiety.

The patient stayed in the hospital for six days, during which neither the patient nor her attendant made any complaint to any of the nursing officers, RMO or the superintendent about the staff who demanded bribes. In an enquiry, it was found that no one demanded or accepted a bribe, he said.

On February 7, Bhadrachalam ITDA project officer visited the hospital and enquired about the incident. The project officer gave strict warnings to all the staff as well as the superintendent against demanding bribes from patients and said stringent action would be taken against the accused if such incidents were repeated.

As per the directions of the district Collector, an enquiry committee was constituted into the incident and a report would be submitted soon.

Referring to the issue of pending wages of contract workers, he said that a notice was issued to the contracting agency for failing to pay wages to the workers for the past five months. In turn, the agency issued a notice to the hospital for their outstanding dues, Dr Ramakrishna noted.

All the sanitation, patient care and security staff gave a prior notice on February 6 about launching an indefinite strike on February 15 for their pending wages. The same was conveyed to the higher authorities, he added.
