Sanagreddy: Health Minister T Harish Rao said that Telangana will be capable of generating 550 metric tonnes (MT) of oxygen on a daily basis and added that the government has signed an agreement with some organisations located at Pashamylaram Industrial Area in this regard.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating an oxygen plant at Area Hospital in Zaheerabad on Sunday, the Minister said that the State used to have only 200 MT oxygen generating capacity when Covid-19 hit Telangana in March 2020 and added that the State had to import Oxygen from Tamil Nadu, Goa and Karnataka as the demand shot up to 500 metric tonnes in the later part of 2021 and in 2022.
In the wake of these developments, the Health Minister said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao instructed them to increase the Oxygen supply capacity to 550 metric tonnes. Stating that they could now generate 350 MTs now, he said that they will enhance it to 550 shortly. The Health Minister said that they had connected all the 27,000 beds in government hospitals with oxygen supply and appreciated Mahindra and Mahindra Company for setting up an oxygen plant which could supply 500 liters of oxygen at Zaheerabad Hospital. He informed that this was the 86th plant in Telangana.
Meanwhile, the Health Minister announced that they will set up a 50-bed Mother and Child Care Centre on the premises Area hospital in Zaheerabad shortly.
Appreciating the Gynaecology department at Zaheerabad hospital for performing 60 to 70 per cent of deliveries at Zaheerabad hospital as normal, he said that both the mother and baby will suffer if delivery is performed through Caesarean section. MLA K Manik Rao, Sangreddy Collector M Hanumantha Rao, DCMS Chairman Malkapuram Shiva Kumar and others were present.
