Nalonda: Telangana State Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy on Thursday said the State government was encouraging the dairy sector by extending loans for purchase of cattle and setting up sheds for farmers.
Speaking at National Milk Day celebrations held by Milk Producers Cooperative Society at Babasaipet in Thripuraram mandal in the district, he said the birth anniversary of Verghese Kurien, father of white revolution in the country, was being observed as National Milk Day. “Kurien’s efforts took India to the top position in the world in milk production,” he said.
He said that the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has also accorded top priority for development of dairy sector and took up special measures for procurement of milk from farmers. He has also underlined the need for further development of the dairy sector. Hyderabad city alone requires 20 lakh litres of milk a day, he said, and exuded confidence that Telangana State would top the country in milk production. Farmers should cooperate with the government in making the schemes taken up for dairy development a success, he added.
