Suryapet: Stating that Telangana was witnessing a blue revolution, Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy on Thursday said that Integrated Fisheries Development Scheme (IFDS) has improved the livelihood of fishermen and also made fish available for consumption in the State.

Releasing fishlings into the Pedda Cheruvu of Nemmikal of Athmakur(S) mandal in the district, Jagadish Reddy said that the State government accorded priority to the fisheries sector to provide livelihood to the people of fishermen community. He pointed out that the State government has taken up the release of fishlings into irrigation tanks and reservoirs, which has led to an increase of fish production in the State.

The Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao allocated huge funds to fisheries department with an intention to bring blue revolution in the State.

He said that 34,024 irrigation tanks have been identified by the State government for release 93 crore fishlings at an estimated cost of Rs 89 crore for this year. In addition to this, 10 crore prawns seeds would also be released into these irrigation tanks at an estimated cost of Rs 25 crore. He said that the State government took up different schemes for revival of caste based professions. The Chief Minister strongly believed that strengthening caste based professions would automatically lead to strengthening of rural economy.

He reminded that the State government was also providing mopeds, nets and marketing material to the fishermen under IFDS. Rajya Sabha member Badugula Lingaiah Yadav, District Collector T Vinay Krishna Reddy and others also attended the programme.
