Adilabad: A woman was arrested on Sunday for allegedly cheating a couple by selling a house site using forged land documents. Another accused in the case is still absconding.

Adilabad I Town Inspector K Phanidhar said that Dasari Jyothi, a real estate agent from Brundavan Colony, was arrested for duping Gedem Devidas and his wife Jyotsna by selling them a house site in the Khanapur area using forged documents. The couple had paid Rs 3.30 lakh for the site three years ago. Her accomplice, Mohammad Kaleem, remains at large.

During interrogation, Jyothi confessed to committing the fraud with Kaleem to make quick money. She admitted to registering the land in Kaleem’s name, even though she had already entered into an agreement with Devidas. The plot had already been sold to Kaleem earlier.

Devidas and Jyotsna realised they had been cheated when Jyothi fled from the registrar’s office without completing the property registration. They alleged that despite repeated requests, she had refused to return the money.
