Telangana: Woman held for killing parents over Instagram relationship
A young woman was arrested in Vikarabad district for allegedly killing her parents after they opposed her relationship with a man she met on Instagram. Police said she administered an overdose of sedatives and are probing the case from all angles.
Hyderabad: In a chilling incident, police have arrested a young nurse for allegedly murdering her parents by injecting them with a poisonous substance to prevent an arranged marriage at their house in Vikarabad district.
The incident occurred in Yacharam village, where the elderly couple, identified as Dasarath and Lakshmi, was found dead inside their home. At first, relatives and neighbours believed the couple had taken their own lives, reportedly due to financial pressures. However, things soon unraveled as police noticed unusual circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Elaborating on the sequence of events during a press meet on Wednesday, Vikarabad DSP Srinivas Reddy said the couple had four children, including their youngest daughter, N Surekha, who works as a nurse at a private hospital in Sangareddy district. At her workplace, she started loving a man, which was opposed by her parents.
“As the family began exploring another match for her, Surekha allegedly decided to eliminate her parents to stop the marriage negotiations,” the DSP said.
As per her plan, she visited the house on January 25 and told her parents she would administer injections to relieve their knee pain. Instead, she allegedly injected both of them with a lethal substance.
“After their deaths, the bodies were laid out beside each other to resemble a suicide scene. She later informed her brother, Ashok, that their parents had suddenly collapsed and she also approached the police with a similar claim,” the senior official said.
However, her statements did not match forensic and circumstantial findings, raising a strong suspicion. Following questioning and evidence, police had concluded that the injections administered by the daughter had caused the deaths and detained Surekha. She spilled the beans during questioning.
Police said further investigation is on to trace the source of the poison and find out whether anyone else was involved in the crime.
