Hyderabad: Telangana women’s basketball team went down to Indian Railways 82-131 in the final to settle for the second place at the 71st National Basketball Championship for men and women at the JN Indoor Stadium in Chennai, on Sunday.
The Railways team was dominant throughout the match. They raced to a 13-point lead after the first quarter with the score reading 32-19. They extended the lead to 33 points in the second as they went into the lemon break with a 77-44 advantage. However, Telangana hoopsters tried to stage a comeback scoring 19 points in the third quarter to Indian Railways’ 14 points. But the winners responded with 40 points in the final quarter while the State team managed 19 points.
Poonam Chaturvedi top-scored with 26 pointsfor the winners. For Telangana women, Anbarasi and P Priyanka scored 20 points each while Aswathy S Thampi scored 18 points.
