Nagarkurnool: Summer is still three months away but women in Kollapur town are already being forced to stage protests demanding supply of drinking water.

Carrying empty pots, women from different colonies in wards 12 and 13 hit the streets on Sunday, raising slogans against the State government demanding supply of sufficient drinking water.

The women complained that since the last one week, supply of drinking water was erratic and insufficient for their needs. They also complained that despite taking up the issue with the officials several times, the problem was persisting.

Kollapur town gets drinking water through Mission Bhagiratha lines from Singotam overhead tank. The distance between Singotam and Kollapur is about eight kilometers.

However, due to poor maintenance, technical glitches like valve issues have occurred in Mission Bhagiratha pipelines. At times, they get damaged and repairs are also delayed as local officials depend on municipal workers to take up the repairs, they pointed out.

Amidst these issues, water supply to Kollapur town gets affected. As a temporary measure, at times tankers are used to supply water to the households but women complain that it was sufficient besides it being cumbersome to fetch water from the tanker supply points to their homes.
