Hyderabad: A joint forum of women and transgenders organisations in Telangana has written to Telangana Police demanding the immediate arrest of Bandi Bageerath in connection with a POCSO case registered against him at the Pet Basheerabad police station.
The group alleged that despite non-bailable charges under the POCSO Act and BNS, the suspect has not been taken into custody, raising concerns over delay in the investigation.
In a representation to the Director General of Police on Thursday, the Telangana Women and Transgender Joint Action Committee (WT-JAC) said the case involved serious allegations of sexual assault, grooming and intimidation of a 17-year-old girl.
The organisation also expressed concern over the circulation of the minor’s photos and videos on social media and alleged targeted online abuse against the victim and her family.
The forum further urged police to arrest the suspect without delay, ensure an impartial probe free from political influence, and provide protection and counselling to the minor survivor and her family.
It also sought legal action against those sharing the victim’s identity or images online.
