Hyderabad: The nine inundated pumps of the Mallaram pump house in Siddipet are being repaired by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB). While the repair works were underway, a spare motor to pump out water was also procured from Karimnagar.
On Tuesday, officials of line departments also carried out inpsection of the repair works. Following heavy downpour there, the Mallaram pump house was flooded with rainwater damaging the pumps on Monday.
According to HMWS&SB, there was a shortfall of 110 million gallons per day (MGD) in water supply to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits and surrounding areas due to the incident. The areas affected in the city include Malkajgiri, Serilingampally, Kukatpally, Quthbullapur, Nizampet and Bachupally.
To address the issue, alternate drinking water supply arrangements have been made to the localities where water supply has been halted. While the shortfall of water supply stood at 110 MGD, HMWS&SB is pumping 79 MGD through Singur, Himayatsagar, Osmansagar and Krishna.
HMWS&SB Managing Director, Dana Kishore said that water tankers were being sent to the localities where water supply has been affected. He also urged people to use water conservatively to avoid inconvenience, and dial 155313 (HMWS&SB customer care number) for assistance.
